Electronic price labels, or ESLs for short, bring enormous advantages for industry and trade in terms of item labelling and identification. But how exactly are the digital labels administered and filled with the required designs?

ESL works within an infrastructure that also includes software. This software is needed to keep track of the status of all labels and to record individual labels and price tags.

Depending on the ESL manufacturer, a different software solution is used, which is adapted to the respective labels. For VUSION labels from the manufacturer SES-imagotag, for example, the Jeegy software is used, while NEWTON labels are managed with the Aims software.

Despite different manufacturers and user interfaces, all solutions have several elements in common that are essential for the management of electronic labels.

Label Overview

Software provides users with an overview of the status of all labels. In large stores with numerous electronic price tags, it is possible to filter quickly and effectively for labels that are offline or need a battery change. And in industry, the status overview also enables management across multiple warehouses or production sites.

Label Designer

What exactly should the display show? The question of design is solved through a label designer. With it, templates can be created and adapted. By connecting to the existing merchandise management system, selected areas can be personalized to enable dynamic price labelling, for example. Completely automated and across several labels.

The manufacturers' label designers are intuitive to use and do not require in-depth design or IT knowledge. Using elements of text and graphics and the colors black, white and red, simple or complex layouts can be created and displayed within a few clicks.

How does ESL management work on a day-to-day basis?

The status of the labels should be checked regularly to ensure that all signs are online. The link to the merchandise management system should also be tested to ensure correct display of prices and information. Otherwise, electronic shelf labels run automatically, which is one of their great advantages. Ultimately, the use of ESLs saves a lot of time and is administratively less complex than paper labels.

We will be happy to advise you on specific application possibilities, hardware options and, of course, the individual software solutions.
