Smarter business processes with electronic labels
Oscillating and electric clamping systems, couplings, engine cooling systems, belt drives for commercial vehicles: anyone who looks at Kendrion INTORQ's product portfolio quickly notices that modern technology and innovations have a home here. It comes as no surprise that the electronic labels provided by e-shelf-labels are used in five different use cases at the production site in Aerzen (Lower Saxony). The initial introduction of the technology at Kendrion INTORQ was based on a coincidence.
Henri Höft, Junior IT Specialist at Kendrion INTORQ, explains how the idea for the project came about: "One of our suppliers showed us the updatable e-label system he was using in his company. We were fascinated by it and wondered what it could do for us." Quite a lot, as it turned out.
Initially, labels from the manufacturer SES-imagotag were used for signage in offices and conference rooms. At the same time, testing of several hundred 4.2 inch labels began in the logistics area. The labels provide employees with valuable information about the status of an order. In production, they help to find the storage locations of components more quickly - through the "pick-by-light" function. When a production order is processed and scanned, the system sends flashing pulses to the LEDs of the labels on the respective material boxes. Search processes are thus greatly shortened.
Quick help with selection and introduction
The right product for every application - e-shelf-labels attaches great importance to providing advice. We are all the more pleased to see how satisfied Kendrion INTORQ is overall with the selection and commissioning of the e-shelf-labels supplied. Employees can now see at a glance whether the conference rooms are still spontaneously free - without first having to start a computer and open Outlook. To further increase the longevity of the labels in the storage area, e-shelf-labels had special impact protection covers made and installed them. Even after five years, most of the labels run flawlessly without defects and without changing batteries.
Label system continues to grow
Since its introduction in the administration and factory premises of Kendrion INTORQ at the Aerzen site, new areas of application for electronic labels are constantly being added. Currently, the addition of labels from the Solum brand (Newton series) is planned to complement the existing system, which are particularly convincing due to their design and the available functions. Storage locations and shelves are to be consistently labelled electronically. Henri Höft is aiming for an introduction at all Kendrion production sites worldwide, with e-shelf-labels already in use for conference room labelling at sites in China.
